Carolyn Kaster is a photojournalist for the Associated Press based in Washington, D.C.
Kaster graduated 1989 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in Art and Political Science. She began her career as a freelance photojournalist and writer, working for national and international clients spanned a wide variety of subjects including the pediatric AIDS crisis across the United States, yacht racing, and music. She also created production stills for feature film and documentary.
Kaster joined the Associated Press in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 2003, and has won multiple awards for her work. She has created stills and video essays for national and international assignments, including, sports, volcanoes, hurricanes, nuns, and coal miners. She has covered the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain, and her work now deals primarily with U.S. politics including the Trump White House.
